Evan Meyer (C’01)
Board Member and Investment Review Committee, Georgetown Angel Investor Network
What is your favorite memory from your time on the Hilltop?
My favorite memory from the Hilltop can’t be condensed to a singular event. It has to be the sheer number of close friendships that developed while at Georgetown and following graduation in NYC with other classmates. Aside from that, the intramural hoops championships won, block parties and switching from a pre-med/biology to American government major.
Tell us about your life post-Georgetown. What led you to GAIN?
A career in finance (investment banking and institutional equity sales) post my MBA eventually led me to a role at Glade Brook Capital where I worked alongside fellow classmates Paul Hudson, Colin Kronewitter and JP VanArsdale. Being in the trenches with 3 fellow friends and Hoyas trying to build a Venture/Growth Equity Fund was an amazing experience. The fundraising and investing knowledge gained from that experience led me to launch my own VC Fund, Astralis Capital in 2021, and ultimately join GAIN as a way to pass forward those experiences alongside a little capital to Alums looking to start new businesses.
How has GAIN enhanced your alumni experience?
It was a tremendous honor to be asked to join the GAIN Board, and it’s been an eye opening opportunity to better understand all the effort (as volunteers) that has been put into GAIN by the founding members to build what is an organization that stands toe to toe with some of the leading university Alumni Angel groups in the country.
What areas/sectors excite you most as an angel investor?
My VC fund is focused on gambling and sports so that’s a given, but I like the amount of interesting medtech ideas that flow from GAIN as well as some of the consumer product ideas.
Where do you see GAIN going in the future?
We’ve only just begun to build what I believe will be a sustainable and wildly successful effort to marry alumni funding sources to impactful / world-changing ideas. Our diverse membership that brings unique viewpoints and backgrounds together to help fund and grow these companies will only improve over time and mirroring the University’s Called To Be campaign, I hope it will become a sizeable contributor to the Endowment as our investors and founders exit successful investments.
